Below is the list of things teams of the NBA are doing to “Go Green” .
1. Several teams are providing incentives for fans that take public transit, bicycles or hybrid vehicles to games:
- The Toronto Raptors store is offering 25% off to anyone that shows a public transportation receipt/pass
- Minnesota Timberwolves fans who ride public transportation to the game on April 5 will receive an upper level ticket for free.
2. The Cleveland Cavaliers have swapped all traditional plastic glasses in their arena with biodegradable cups made up of corn plastic.
3. The San Antonio Spurs are expected to save 13.2 million gallons of water by switching the AT&T Center to water-saving fixtures and the use of recycled water for its cooling towers.
4. The Dallas Mavericks will host their first-ever e-cycle drive at American Airlines Center on Thursday, April 9. Fans that have old TVs, handheld devices, cell phones, PDAs, computers, keyboards and mice (no printers, DVDs/VCRs). Fans that drop off an item will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the Mavs vs. Timberwolves game on April 13 and will receive a coupon to Genghis Grill.

7. The Houston Rockets hold a “Recycle Item of the Month” drive during each month of the NBA season featuring a new item (clothes, cell phones, and electronics). For every item donated, fans receive 2 tickets to a specified game. A recent drive resulted in the collection of over 3,000 lbs of electronics.
8. The Toronto Raptors have installed new waste trisorters in their arena, which will help to reduce utility costs by 29%, greenhouse gases by 30% and landfill reduced by 100%.
9. The New Orleans Hornets are providing free parking to the first 100 fans that arrive to the arena with 4 or more people in a car.
10. The Minnesota Timberwolves have switched to a team plane that is 30% more efficient than the type previously used for team travel through the year. Additionally, an enhanced recycling program for aluminium cans, plastic, and paper was instituted on team flights.
